warning to TITUS
Get a load of this ….
For there are many rebellious people who engage in useless talk and deceive others. This is especially true of those who insist on circumcision for salvation. (who have come over from Judaism – Amp ).
They must be silenced, because they are turning whole families away from the truth by their false teaching. And they do it only for money. Titus 1:10, 11 LNT
As in Pauls day, by frequent observation, so in ours !
Not much has changed down through the centuries I would say
For quite a while now I have realised and mentioned privately that in my view, many of the proponents of the Law – whom we refer to as 'legalists' – those who mix LAW with GRACE – who pollute pure GRACE with any degree of self works or self effort for their justification – do so either consciously or unconciously for their own agenda which is … money / reward and power and control
Who are building their own personal kingdom, more so than Gods.
And have what one can only refer to as 'mixed motives'
And who depend on the mixture of Law and Grace to run their 'clubs' and keep their pews shined.
So I have seen, observed and witnessed frequently in this local region, and reportedly abroad. I could relate many instances and personal encounters with such over the years. As an architect meeting many local religious leaders over several decades now, their motivation I have heard stated, and even boasted !
Also, to hear of frequent stories of others and their harsh treatment at the hands of the clergy, which has left them bruised and battered along life's way.
Titus was the Apostle Paul's 'son in a common faith' and thought fit to strongly and clearly warn him of such people ….
For a bishop (an overseer) as God's steward must be blameless, not self-willed or arrogant or presumptuous; he must not be quick-tempered or given to drink or pugnacious (brawling, violent); he must not be grasping and greedy for filthy lucre (financial gain);
But he must be hospitable (loving and a friend to believers, especially to strangers and foreigners); [he must be] a lover of goodness [of good people and good things], sober-minded (sensible, discreet), upright and fair-minded, a devout man and religiously correct, temperate and keeping himself in hand.
He must hold fast to the sure and trustworthy Word of God as he was taught it, so that he may be able both to give stimulating instruction and encouragement in sound (wholesome) doctrine and to refute and convict those who contradict and oppose it [showing the wayward their error]. Titus 1:7-9
Wow !
Quite a standard to firstly apply personally, and then to those religious leaders that abound.
This brings me another few observances made over the years and decades ….
To really wonder about the personal experience of many Christians, in their Church attendance. To wonder about how many are actually 'born again', how many have actually had a revelation about Jesus righteousness, about redemption, to whom the Scriptures are an open book, who are aware of the spiritual world and its forces, who are committed to Christ Himself in their daily lives, who know grace in reality.
And can discern the religious system for what it is.
Who know their identity in Christ.
Who have any degree of spiritual insight at all ?
Who know any degree of being Holy Spirit led for themselves.
Who exhibit spiritual fruit in their private daily home lives ( if it don't work at home - don't export it)
Who have had 'their hearts strangely warmed' as Wesley experienced,
or 'our hearts burn within us' as Cleopas and friend enroute to Emmaus
The present religious system and the one person speaking / preaching just seems to make for a spiritual 'kindergarten'.
The present religious system (the PRS) actually needs an mixture of Law with Grace to keep the pews full, and people 'in line', and shallow spirituality is the result.
I am so glad that God is the supreme Judge …... I simply wouldn't know where to start !
Meanwhile, we can have the mind of Christ, and discern all things, 1 Corinthians 2:15,16
as we learn to look to Jesus and personally apply His eyesalve.
Amazing GRACE, so rich, so free
I once was BLIND, BUT NOW I SEE
