Pray up your Immune System !
He who speaks in an unknown tongue edifies himself 1 Corinthians 14: 4
Many Charismatics believe that when you speak in tongues, you edify or build up your spirit man. Well, that is only one-third true. The Bible does not say that the speaker edifies their spirit. NO, it says that the speaker 'edifies himself'
This means ones entire self – spirit, soul and body. So, they who speak in tongues builds up their entire spirit, soul and body.
Does this include building up your immune system ? Yes it evidently does !
Brain specialists at Oral Roberts University's hospital found out through research and testing that when a person prays in tongues, their brain releases 2 chemicals that are directed to their Immune System, giving it a 35 - 40 per cent boost.
Interestingly, these secretions are triggered by a part of the brain that has no other apparent activity, and which is activated only when we pray in tongues.
Our Immune System is our first line of defence against diseases.
During the SARS outbreak in Singapore in 2003, not everyone who had the disease died. Only those whose immune systems were weak succumbed to the disease and died. Therefore, many people resorted to vitamins and herbs to boost their Immune Systems.
A 74 year old church member decided to build up his Immune System against more heart problems. Two of his arteries were 70 percent blocked and five smaller arteries were 80 per cent blocked. During a church service, when those who wanted to be healed of heart problems were asked to stand, he responded. stood up, and placed his hand over his heart and prayed in tongues. He later shared that at that moment, he believed that he Holy Spirit touched him, and he became a different person. When he went for his next medical check-up, his surgeon found that all the blockages in his blood vessels were gone ! Even a scheduled heart related operation was cancelled, as there was no necessity for it. Indeed, he was a different person. He literally had 'a change of heart', a new heart from God !
Beloved … you may not have a heart condition, but you can still pray in tongues and pray up your Immune System

just trust Gods goodness and pray in the Spirit
for if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful 1 Corinthians 14:14
God has given us a powerful prayer gift – praying in tongues, which is not limited by distance, time or head knowledge. When you pray in tongues, you could be praying for your own future, or even a loved one, or an unknown circumstance. You wont know what you are praying unless God tells you. This is because your 'understanding is unfruitful” your mind is not involved.
“But I must know what I am praying !” we think.
But sometimes it is better not to know, until the answer comes to pass !
Beloved, don't stop praying in tongues just because you don't know what you are praying. You could be praying for the safety of a loved one in a life and death situation. Especially when you feel an urge to pray because you sense danger ... pray. Pray until you sense a release as the burden is lifted. The Holy Spirit will know exactly what is going on, who is in danger and how to pray for deliverance Romans 8:27
You may say “Well, I can just pray in English” You can, but your prayer will be very limited because you don't know everything. It is better to pray in tongues because the Holy Spirit knows all things.
My friend, you don't belong to the natural, limited realm. You belong to God, who is unlimited. So, pray in tongues, and see great things happening for you and through you.

So this praying in the Spirit / speaking in tongues is all about TRUSTING God
We are so used to doing everything 'naturally' ... not super-naturally, which is Gods realm, and if we can connect with that then there will be super-natural results.
This 1 Corinthians 14 is an amazing chapter.
It comes right after chapter 13 which is about LOVE and which is often quoted … at weddings etc then comes this chapter 14 ...
1 Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.
2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.
3 But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.
4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.
5 I wish you all spoke with tongues …
15 What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.
18 I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all;
19 yet in the church I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I may teach others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue.
37 If anyone thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things which I write to you are the commandments of the Lord.
38 But if anyone is ignorant, let him be ignorant.
39 Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues.
40 Let all things be done decently and in order.
To which verse 40 someone wisely added … but let them first be done !
I note that we are encouraged to DESIRE spiritual gifts as much as we pursue LOVE … wow
and I also note that in verse 38 IGNORANCE of this topic is A CHOICE as much as any other choice we make along life's road ...
Jesus said … If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear … to you who hear, more will be given. For whoever has, to him more will be given; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.” Mark 4 : 23-26
So this has been a clear admonishment to me concerning my reliance on praying according to my own understanding, and my general neglect of this topic since I was baptised with the Holy Spirit many decades ago (from which many shy away, probably because of some peoples public display and their personal un-wise exhibition of such.) But personally, when I do speak or pray in tongues, I find that I experience quite a unique 'freedom' within, and a deep joy, even exhilaration ! And then I remember that joy is one of the fruits of the Spirit of Galatians 5:22
And that by the use of tongues we 'edify' or build-up our selves
Lord … please help me develop this personal gift of tongues to your glory alone, and the furtherance of your Kingdom.
Postscript …
A journalist was given the task of reporting on the phenomenon of speaking in tongues. So he visited a local Church and enquired if he could interview someone about this subject who had had the experience and could demonstrate it. He was directed to a certain woman, and during the interview asked her if he could hear her speak in tongues for him to listen to. She replied that usually she prayed in tongues, not otherwise, and would do so if he could suggest a real circumstance for her prayer. He responded saying that his wife was very ill, could she perhaps make that the subject of her prayer ? She did so, and after hearing her pray in tongues he finished the interview and left.
Later, when he returned home, he found his wife completely healed from her illness !
