DELIGHT full

One of the best known tests or indicator of ourselves that I can think of, is simply this ….

what is it the gives me the most inward DELIGHT ??
where do I get the greatest buzz ? …
is it      with someone special ?     just ask a young person
is it     a close friendship / partner ?     just being with them does it
is it     doing some adventure ?     ask someone into extreme sports
is it     travel excitement ?     new places and faces
is it     a superstars concert ?     with a crowd of thousands
is it     business success ?
is it     shopping                         for some ?
is it     partying ? drinking ? gambling ? betting ? the internet ?
            whatever turns you on ?

For me there is something, or rather someone, that transcends all of the above list

The occasions that the Word of God is quickened to me … when it comes alive, when I sense that the Holy Spirit has touched a passage … when circumstances uniquely combine with His unmistakable fingerprint … these are my supreme DELIGHT above all else that I have experienced on this planet.

So what is a delight ? … the dictionary says … delight is to please, gratify, satisfy, gladden, cheer, relish, enjoy, charm, entrance

But there is a simple test … what do we think about when our mind is free from anything else, when all distractions and other occupations simply fade and cease ?
When our minds are in neutral, when our thoughts can 'free wheel' as it were.
What is the compass direction of our thoughts when there is nothing else of worry, care or concern ? To what or whom does our thoughts gravitate ?

Is it upward ?
Is it to Him … in whom we live and move and have our being Acts 17 : 28

For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen. Romans 11:36

Is He our delight ? and in His word … as he was for the Psalmist and countless others down through the ages.

Your testimonies also are my delight and my counselors. Psalm 119 which is riddled with such verses 16, 24, 47, 77, 92, 111, 174

Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way. v23

But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. Psalm 1:2

Paul found it likewise … For I joyfully delight in the law of God in my inner self [with my new nature] Romans 7:22 Amp

I well recall a preachers comment … “ my main mission is to make people thirsty for God !”

O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water. Psalm 63:1

As the hart pants after the water brooks, so pants my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? Psalm 42:1, 2
My soul longs, yes, even faints for the courts of the Lord: my heart and my flesh cries out for the living God. Psalm 84:2

When you think about it … where else should a created being find their supreme joy, their foremost delight, except in being united with their Creator ??
Makes sense do you think ?

On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. John 7:37

In this world where people are in the pursuit of happiness, and seeking love, joy and peace, it is intriguing to discover that all these things are a fruit of the Holy Spirit ... not from an alcoholic spirit , nor in any other place ! Galatians 5:22

for the joy of the Lord is your strength. Nehemiah 8:10
