Ray & Jan Miller, married with 3 adult children, 4 grandchildren, and an extended family,
living in Auckland New Zealand
Ray Miller, Dip Arch, ANZIA, Dip Theo, an Architect with 25 years in private practice
Jan Miller, an experienced massage therapist and counsellor
Both with a life-changing “born again” conversion experience in their early twenties, then to
spend 25 years within the confines of a local Church. There they married, raised a family, and “served
faithfully” in a variety of spheres involving people (and buildings for Ray)
When that particular church became increasingly and disturbingly authoritarian, legalistic and controlling,
they eventually left. ( as did hundreds of other mature Christians over those years)
Now with 45 years experience of Christian involvement, Ray in later years very much involved in Bible-in-Schools
ministry and Kids Ministry to Primary School assemblies, and both involved regularly over the last 15 years
in Prison ministry
After visiting many churches of different denominations all over the region, like others before them, they
didn't seem to fit into the pigeon hole of any local church or the general institutionalised church scene at
all.
Their first reaction was "is it me / us or or is there another deeper reason ?"
All the while Ray searched the scriptures and his own heart and sought God earnestly.
Slowly insights came, he began making notes, reading, thinking and praying further.
So after 45 years of Christian pilgrimage, five years touring local churches, countless hours, days, months
and years seeking – these books and articles are the result.
And so to the “church” he writes - what he believes the Spirit of God is saying not only to this
city, nor even New Zealand or Australasia but to individual Christians and to the churches of our entire Western
culture.
"Are you tired ? Worn out ? Burned out on religion ?
Come to me.
Get away with me and you'll recover your life.
I'll show you how to take a real rest.
Walk with me and work with me - watch how I do it.
Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.
I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.
Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly.
